The Evidence Gap · APAC

Half a billion women. A research record built in clinics they don't attend.

Menopause epidemiology in Asia Pacific is largely constructed from Western, clinic-attending samples. The gap that leaves can be traced through the published literature: who has been studied, where, and who is missing.

Methodology · Research Coverage Index

One score per country, re-applied the same way each time.

The Research Coverage Index (RCI) scores the existing evidence base for midlife women's health in any APAC country across five dimensions — epidemiology, methodology, ethnic representation, clinical guidelines, and translated instruments.

Scored 0–25, peer-reviewable, and designed to be re-applied with country clinical collaborators across the network.

Twenty-one APAC countries have had a Phase 0 desk review. Two carry working scores that local sources are still being checked against.

"Phase 0 measures what is missing. Phase 1 begins to fill it."

The Faces · Photographer's Note

"I have met and photographed women in many remote parts of the world. These are vivacious and capable women in their own communities, and I am incredibly curious about how they navigate their health needs, particularly in midlife and beyond. I am also wondering if the medical evidence our clinical practices are guided by, necessarily apply to these women. This project will allow us to answer all these questions!"

Who is behind the work.

Four layers, by structure: two co-founders, financial governance support, advisors in formation, and a consent-led APAC clinical network.

The centre stays small on purpose. We are looking for partners rather than filling positions.

For Funders

If you fund women's health research in Asia Pacific, we should talk.

DFV is preparing a concise funder briefing on the APAC evidence gap, the Research Coverage Index, and the consent-led country collaboration model. We are opening selected conversations while country pathways and publication plans are reviewed.
